Call of the wild. . .

The parrot I spotted in our yard has become a feature. In a strange series of coincidences, we know his name is Papaya and he escaped from his family 8 months ago. (My son calls him 'squawk-face', I think 'Fenway' would be a good name for a Boston area parrot). The mystery is how did the bird survive in Boston's winter???

I think he must be starved for human company because he keeps coming back to perch on the back fence when I'm in the yard. This morning, I hand fed him peanuts and grapes. My younger son and I were sitting on the back deck having supper tonight and he swooped down onto the deck railing not 3 feet from us.

He took this video where our dog gets up close and personal with the bird. Don't worry--no animals were harmed in the making of the video.

I'm hoping that we will be able to build enough trust over time with the bird that we can get him back to his owners.

  2. paisley--I did talk to the owner and she has tried to catch him. I think the bird may be teasing her. Since he's hanging out in my yard, it may be a good idea for them to bring his cage over here, leave it open and stocked with food and see what happens.

    I'll keep you posted!
