Two well known, well respected agents. Two personal rejections after reading the first 50 pages of "Wings." Conflicting comments.
Sigh.
Agent number one: Story is too slowly paced, too much time spent on character development at the expense of the story.
Agent number two: Story is too fast paced, not enough time to feel connected with the characters.
AARGH!
I swear--these agents read the SAME 50 pages.
The silver lining--both agents mentioned that they liked my writing.
Sigh. Just another frustrating day in the writing life.
Well, that's good that they like your writing. Three's a charm ~ maybe you need Agent #3. ;o)
ReplyDeleteOne can only hope, Mikaela! Another batch of queries will hit the mail today.

I'll send a Muse-blessing your way. Good luck!
ReplyDeletelisa, most agents i've known are far better at reading contracts than manuscripts. don't know what the solution is except to keep sending things out, and let the so-called critiques roll off your back. it's all a crap shoot anyway, but i do believe that ultimately talent will out. good luck. jim
