1000 Posts; 1000 Books: An Unexpected Celebration

At one point on Sunday, DERELICT shot up to #9th of all Kindle Science Fiction book best sellers
The book is in extremely good company.

I started writing my first novel 10 years ago this summer.

I began this blog 9 years ago today.

This is my 1000th blogpost at Once in a Blue Muse, and I have 1000 reasons to celebrate: My most recent novel, DERELICT, also sold 1000 copies in its first week since release day.

I am utterly flabbergasted, grateful, overwhelmed, and overjoyed.

So some numbers:

  • In ten years, I've completed nine novels.
  • DERELICT is the third that I've published, under Interrobang Books, the imprint I created several years ago.
  • The other two, THE BETWEEN and FUTURE TENSE sold modestly, though to positive reviews
  • DERELICT also sold modestly in the first 5 days of its existence, with between 10 and 20 copies sold each day. (Which was lovely)
  • On Saturday, I woke to something strange; a spike in sales that lasted all through that day and the next until over 900 copies had sold in two days.
  • As I prepare this post on Sunday evening, DERELICT is:
    •  27th in the kindle store under Science Fiction and Fantasy
    • 10th in the kindle store for Science Fiction and Fantasy/Science Fiction
    • 3rd in the kindle store for BOTH SF&F/SF/Space Opera AND Space Exploration, and
    • it ranks in the top 300 of best sellers overall on Amazon for all books
My heart is full.

This is a dream realized that has been ten years in the making.

I think the writing gods must have been smiling down upon this book and its author, in having these milestones all coincide.

To all of you who have read my blog over the years, who have commented, who have emailed me when a particular post moved you, who have purchased and read any of my books, who have shared them with others, who have left reviews and posted about them on their own social media streams, who have befriended me in the virtual world and the physical one, who have encouraged my writing journey;  my sincere and humble thanks.

I am honored by your support, and whether you realize it or not, you are all part of my team.

If you have purchased a copy of DERELICT (eBook or print), or any of my other novels in the two weeks that began last Friday and until this coming Friday, please email me a copy of your receipt or a selfie with you reading the book for a chance to win a handmade ceramic mug from me. Because I know I love a good cup of tea with a good book.(And thank you for helping make my release week such an incredible success!)

If you'd like a chance to win a copy of the book for yourself or a friend, leave a comment on this post.

Again, thank you. You all rock!
