September 4, 1988

25 years ago today, it was a rainy day in Philadelphia. Actually it poured down rain of biblical proportions and we were supposed to have an outdoor ceremony.

But we did what we always do which is have a plan B and forge ahead.

By that day in 1988, Neil and I had already been dating for 6 1/2 years, much of it long distance, while I completed college and went onto graduate he went through medical school and residency. We didn't expect the ceremony to be that big of a deal, after all, we had already made the commitment to one another.

And yet, it was a big deal. Standing up and officially dedicating ourselves to our relationship in the presence of friends and family meant more to both of us than we could have imagined. We were scared, thrilled, and giddy.

25 years later, we are still each other's best friend.

A little older, a little more careworn, a little greyer, but still dedicated to our shared lives.

Happy Anniversary, Neil. Here's to the next 25, my love.
