Original art, Chris Howard, 2012 |
This is likely the cart before the horse (and yes, I know that's an odd metaphor to use for a science fiction story that is about space travel. . . ) but my friend, fellow writer, and talented artist, Chris Howard, created this cover for DERELICT.
Yes, the story is a novel in progress.
Yes, it's still very much in first draft mode.
Yet, having this cover staring me in the face is incredibly motivating. I want to finish this story and make it worthy of the art that goes with it.
Another cart-before-horse matter: to serialize a story before it's complete. Before it's revised and edited, or even (dare I admit it?!) fully plotted out.
But art is about taking risks and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and to try new things. So, in that spirit, I have posted chapter 5 of DERELICT on the story blog (or you can follow it on Wattpad). I'm committed to posting a chapter a week until it's completed.
(I do have a backlog, so I won't be leaving any readers high and dry. Already my husband is pestering me for the rest of what I have written. No dice. He has to wait like all the other readers. LOL.)
I hope you enjoy DERELICT. Comments and questions are always welcome, either here or where the story is posted.
Happy reading!
WOW! That's some really incredible cover art! Very professional...and did I mention awesome?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great motivator!
Thanks B.C.! Chris is kick-ass, both as an artist and a writer and I am so honored to be his friend.
