A Shelter of Crows

A Shelter of Crows

We shiver beneath a storm of wings. Contrail
ribbons across the twilight. Miles of solitary birds
arrow their black bodies overhead.  There is no
hesitation, no uncertainty to their flight. Only we
have no idea where to go from here. I imagine
a forest filled with feathers, living leaves whispering
against bony branches. Thousands of crows
smudge into night dark sky. I watch you
looking up long after their harsh echoes fade
and I wonder how to break the spell
that keeps you earthbound, silent.

  3. @ Lisa--thank you. The actual flight of the crows to their evening roost was something both magical and haunting. Something I got to share with my older son and it was a special moment.

bed and breakfast luray--if you are really interested in commenting, it would really be better if your name wasn't a hyperlink to a business website. it makes it really hard to take the comment as true and not just a way to drive traffic to your site.
