Boston Red Sox: 2007 World Series Champions

Dear Red Sox,

Thank you for a thrilling season of baseball.

Thank you for playing as a team.

Thank you for showing grace and style day in and day out from April until October.

I know it's only a game and I know the players get paid a lot of money to *play* that game, but it's a game that binds together generations. My father invested me with a love of baseball. I have instilled that love in my own children. My boys and I listened to nearly every game all season long. Because we don't have cable TV, we learned to see the game from the radio broadcasters play-by-play. We watched each game of the division and world series, staying up late and bleary-eyed each night to cheer our team. It's been a beautiful touchstone between mother and sons: baseball and a team that embodies the best of sportsmanship.

Tomorrow I will wear my red sox cap and smile, even as I feel a bittersweet sadness at the end of the season, the official end of summer.

How 'bout them sox?

  1. Isn't it amazing that there are generations who have never seen the Sox win a series. Yet, we've seen it twice in four years. Simply amazing.

It's a good time to be a sports fan in New England.

    How 'bout them SOX!
