LeGuin has always been one of my favorite authors. (I have probably read "The Lathe of Heaven" a dozen or more times.) Her recent work is just as powerful and relevant as her older work and she continues to be a role model for me as a writer with her ascerbic wit. In reading LeGuin, I get the sense that she is not only a story teller, but a truth teller, using her fictional worlds to uncover the reality of our lives, warts and all.
I followed this link to LeGuin's essay on genre from a wonderful blog one of my crit partners turned me on to.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. A warning--don't be drinking anything as you read it or you may spew it all over your keyboard.
