I've hit my writing goals each week for the past 3 1/2 weeks and I'm thrilled to say I'm at 40,000 words in the current novel. I'm shooting for anywhere between 50-60K for the completed first draft, so I'm in good shape.
The last several chapters were technically challenging to pull off and required a bit of research on exothermic combustion and smoke inhalation injury and treatment. Thank goodness for 'google'. I often wonder what kind of profile someone would make of my recent searches. In addition to those searches, I was also researching the history of oil paint, cleaning pain brushes in the early twentieth century, the properties of linseed oil and the history of indoor plumbing and enamelware. All small details to ensure no anachronisms would find their way into the bits of the book that take place in 1868 and 1918.
I am pleased at the emotional resiliance of my protagonists and the way they are moving through adversity.
After several brainstorming sessions with dear hubby, I now have the 'just right' ending for this story and cannot wait to get to that final scene.
If all goes as hoped/planned, I should have the draft completed inside of one month.
Happy writing, all!
