This is an excerpt from an email I sent to my friends and family today. The feeling of finishing my first novel is something I will remember for the rest of my life.

Many of you have watched me disappear into the worlds of Tremont and Angenmar as I worked on "The Wings of Winter." After ten months of intensive writing, I got to type the two most satisfying words of the book today.
"The End".
I am proud of the story; the characters and their journey continue to move me, even after nearly a year of sharing my imagination with them. Since last September, they have delighted me, surprised me, fought with me. I have dreamed about them and have even gotten out of a running shower to jot notes down about them. In fact, my family has put up with the invasion with grace and good humor and a lot of patience. They have been unbelievably supportive--the kids considered my daily writing goals 'my homework' and many afternoons, we would all do our homework together.
The next step is to take a week off from writing and read Harry Potter 6. :) After that, I have some light editing to do of the final 1/3 of the novel, fix some minor continuity issues, and make sure I've invented names for all the 'insert place name here's' that remain in the story. I have done some research and have located six agents who seem to be good matches for my work. By the end of the summer, I will be sending them query letters. If any of you have any suggestions or know of other avenues to approach in the publishing world, please let me know.

Oh, and what's the book about?
The Wings of Winter is an epic fantasy novel set in a quasi-medival setting. Political conflict in the Human world and a power struggle in the world of the Aliud (a race of shapeshifters) get enmeshed through Sparrow, a half-Human, half-Aliud girl, who must struggle to make sense of her heritage and the legacy of her abilities.
