It occurred to me today, that my 'fantasy' story is really a story about love, desire, and loss. But isn't that what every story is about? It may not be the love between two individuals, but all stories are love stories. The hero/heroine needs something, wants something, requires something for reasons of passion, belief, or morality. What keeps us reading is the journey for that object of desire including the obstacles the author places in the way. The ending may be love interest gets love interest, main character fulfills quest, hero saves the day/world/universe, or some variant.
But underneath it all, isn't that a 'love' story?
